Dance Schedule for April 2005

Dances start promptly at 8:30pm and end at 11:30pm. Admission is $8. A contra dance lesson for beginners is given every Friday starting at 7:30pm and is included in the price of admission.

April 1 - Mark Sherman calls to Atlantic Crossing - (Brian Perkins, Peter Macfarlane, Rick Klein , Viveka Fox). With 3 CDs out, you know this has to be a top band! They play a variety of instruments (including bouzouki!) in bringing traditional New England Quebecois and Maritine tunes to life with creativity, emotion, and lots of plain fun.

April 8 - Dick Bearman calls with the Glen Echo Open Band

April 15 - Beth Molaro comes up from North Carolina to call to Notorious - Contradance guitar hero Larry Unger, one of the most exciting and versatile young violinists Eden MacAdam-Somer, and Glen Echo's favorite bass player Ralph Gordon.

April 22 - Rhiannon Giddens, a caller from North Carolina, calls to Government Contra Act - Kendall Rogers (piano, bodhran, whistles, feet), Andrew Marcus (accordion, doumbek), Michael Ferguson (hammered dulcimer, trombone, didgeridoo)--Imaginative local musicians making their FND debut with exciting jazzy interpretations of contra music. Can a CD be far behind?

April 29 - Susan Taylor calls to the music of Joe DeZarn (fiddle), Liz Donaldson (piano), Ralph Gordon (bass). Three of the best locally based musicians show why Washington is a world center for contra dance and our kind of music. Hot fiddling, true bass, and rollicking piano.
